An Inconvenient Lab Closure

Yeah, this really sucks. I drove all the way out to Shoreline just to find that the scheduled lab attendant had called in sick. (It happens, but I can’t help but suspect that this is actually a case of a 79&deg fever.) I ran into Chris, and he said that he wasn’t able to find anyone else to watch the lab, which ultimately means everyone’s just S.O.L.. I even tried calling the school throughout the day to see if there was a shift change, but there’s no answer in the lab, so that’s the end of that.

Last Night’s Class: The Film Demo

Week Five wrapped last night with a lecture and demonstration of film development and negative enlargement. Being a lab class, we spent the first part of class in the computer lab receiving instruction on how to load film onto reels and into canisters. At one point Chris (our instructor) assured us that learning to load our film in the total darkness of the loading rooms would be the hardest part our class.

Art 100E – Week 5 (Last Night’s Class)

Last night’s class had the smallest turnout to date. (Seeing the lab empty helps me attribute this drop in attendance more to yesterday’s nice weather than anything else.) It was also a short class. We spent the majority of our time reviewing our materials (in game show fashion) in preparation for our midterm exams, which will be this Monday.

Art 100E

Including last night’s class, I spent over seven hours on the Shoreline campus yesterday. I’m making clear progress. I developed two more rolls of film and made contact sheets for each. (I’m happier with the results of these contact sheets than with the first one, that has rather radical exposure variance.)
