The photography thing has really put me back on the radar socially. I’ve enjoyed catching up with friends since starting the classes at Shoreline. Even though the quarter is now over, staying out and making photos remains a priority. So, when I heard that Josh Williamson was going to be back at the Old Pequliar, I knew I had to go.
The Josh Williamson Band is one of my favorite local acts. It’s a three-piece blues rock group, fronted by a young man whose gift for guitar has nearly worn the finish and paint clean off of it. Tonight’s show is apparently the last one before they hit the studio, and it was a lulu! I don’t want to go into reviewing tonight’s show, but I will report that audiences are still being wowed into hypnotic states by their performances. (OK, somebody’s got to say it: Get a soundman.)
Anyway, I sat over at the OP for the better part of tonight trying to negotiate the terrible lighting conditions at the Old Pequliar. I was really aching to squeeze out one great shot, but no dice. I’ve made a lot of photos in that pub to date, so I’m fairly confident that I didn’t get what I was wanting. I’ve had enough of trying to shoot bands in there.
I did have the opportunity to sit down and talk with Josh for a while again tonight, which was a real pleasure. (We got into a deep conversation about the business and inspiration and artistic whatever over a year ago, and he remembered.) I asked him about playing at the Liquid Lounge and about how he’s been keeping busy. He asked me where I’ve been for so long and what I’ve been up to, so, I let him in on my little drama. All things considered, he was quite gracious. (I swear, I wasn’t trying to overwhelm the poor guy. And, no, I don’t know who that is with him in the picture. Anyone? Anyone?)
So that was tonight. I’ll try to fill you in on my niece and nephew’s graduation party tomorrow.
ps: Happy Birthday, Josh.
