I Got Better

Sorry about the large gap in the entries, but I’ve been under the weather bedridden since Thursday night. I can’t remember when I’ve slept so much. Obviously, I’m not going to go into all of the sordid little details, but I will say that this experience was reminiscent of childhood bouts. Not fun, but I’m starting to feel a lot better now. (Have I mentioned how wonderful Mary is lately? What a lifesaver!)

So, what have you missed? Well, I did get my depth of field assignment turn in on time, technically. I was in the darkroom early on Wednesday and made my enlargements right up to the end. I was in the mounting room, mounting the first photograph from my assignment, when disaster hit. Apparently, the gauge on the medium-sized hot press is faulty, so it doesn’t reflect the actual temperature. In fifteen short seconds one third of my project was melted. Chris, our instructor, did make a point of asking me for a replacement so it could be displayed in the art department. The one extra print I had wasn’t as good as the one that got destroyed, but I was fine with it at that point. Had the equipment not been faulty, I would have had everything done on time.
You know, the best part of this project was working on it with my nephew, Michael. He was thoroughly patient and willing throughout the whole thing (both times). I’ve got a few shots I took of him that had nothing to do with the project, which is really great. I’m working out my way of thanking him for his help. (BTW: All the girls at school ask, “Who’s that?” whenever they see his picture. One classmate went so far as to refer to him as “the hottie.”)
