An Inconvenient Lab Closure
Yeah, this really sucks. I drove all the way out to Shoreline just to find that the scheduled lab attendant had called in sick. (It happens, but I can’t help but suspect that this is actually a case of a 79° fever.) I ran into Chris, and he said that he wasn’t able to find anyone else to watch the lab, which ultimately means everyone’s just S.O.L.. I even tried calling the school throughout the day to see if there was a shift change, but there’s no answer in the lab, so that’s the end of that.

The More Things Change
After playing a bit of phone tag, I finally got in touch with Jeff from that one company I liked so much this morning. It’s been about six weeks since I last worked with them, and I’ve been trying to balance my eagerness to add their samples to my portfolio with an appropriate level of respect for their space. Needless to say, I was both relieved and grateful to find yesterday’s message from Jeff waiting on my cell phone this morning.

Last Night’s Class: The Film Demo
Week Five wrapped last night with a lecture and demonstration of film development and negative enlargement. Being a lab class, we spent the first part of class in the computer lab receiving instruction on how to load film onto reels and into canisters. At one point Chris (our instructor) assured us that learning to load our film in the total darkness of the loading rooms would be the hardest part our class.

Parking Ticket Reduced To Warning!
I just found out that the parking ticket I got at shoreline last week has been reduced to a warning, which suits me just fine. I was pretty ticked about the whole thing in the first place, and I probably would have raised a stink if it wouldn’t have been wiped out like this.

Photoblog Updates
I ended a good bout of procrastination this morning by finally uploading two images to my new photoblog section. After all of the work I’ve put into getting my photoblog up and running I really don’t want to neglect it. I’ve only been developing my own film since last Tuesday (04.20.04), and there’s only one class assignment has come due, so I’m really not that far behind.

Art 100E – Week 5 (Last Night’s Class)
Last night’s class had the smallest turnout to date. (Seeing the lab empty helps me attribute this drop in attendance more to yesterday’s nice weather than anything else.) It was also a short class. We spent the majority of our time reviewing our materials (in game show fashion) in preparation for our midterm exams, which will be this Monday.

Discovery Park
Willy and I just got back from a full day’s photo safari. We started out at 8:00 this morning and, with the slight exception of letting the landlord into my apartment, didn’t get back home until about 4:45 this afternoon. I only went through about forty exposures of film, which I’m attributing to an increased thoughtfulness in picture taking making.

Fear Me
Not because I spent another six hours at Shoreline today, or because I actually developed my own prints, from start to finish. Don’t fear me for the contact sheets or the 8 x 10′s. If you must, fear me for joining Shoreline’s Photo Club.

Art 100E
Including last night’s class, I spent over seven hours on the Shoreline campus yesterday. I’m making clear progress. I developed two more rolls of film and made contact sheets for each. (I’m happier with the results of these contact sheets than with the first one, that has rather radical exposure variance.)

Maintenance, Schmaintenance
The last major development for this web site wasn’t a very “major,” but it was significant. You may recall that I’d recently made some adjustments to my Archive Template. These improvements affect the monthly archival display of my entries, which can be found in the “by month” pop-up menu located in Blather.
