“Photography Is Really Expensive”

I’ve had a fair amount of time on my hands today, so I’ve been keeping myself busy by tracking down the materials listed in my photography class’s syllabus. Following CameraTechs’ and Bootsy‘s kindly recommendations, I headed south on Rainier for about twenty minutes, to Rainier Photographic Supply (seen in the popup thumbnail, above), to complete my mission.

    REQUIRED:
  1. 35 mm camera or digital camera with apertures and shutter speeds (if automatic, the aperture and shutter speeds must be indicated). There are some film cameras available for limited check out.
  2. film (3rolls of 35mm (24) exposure black and white film; 1 slow speed, 1 medium speed, and 1 fast speed).
  3. black and white photographic paper (1 package of 8×10 RC 25 sheets). Most people end up buying 2 packages. It is easier to buy (1) 50-sheet package! If using a digital camera photo quality printer paper 8×10 25sheets is required
  4. 10 sheet package of dry mounting tissue
  5. 4 35mm negative holders (legal page size)
  6. 10(11×14) white, gray or black matt board (hot press)
  7. text book______________________

    SUGGESTED:
  8. matt knife
  9. pencil
  10. tripod (some available for check-out)
  11. lock (for locker)

Again, I feel compelled to remind you that, despite all of the fun little adventures I’ve had with photography to date, I am new to photography. Tracking down the items on this list proved quite educational.
  1. I already have my Olympus OM-2N, so no problems there.
  2. Someone in class asked what slow, medium, and fast speed film was. We were told to generally consider 100 ISO and below as slow, 100
