Working It All Out

I have been walking around in bit of a daze since the job opportunity first appeared last week. It’s a fantastic professional opportunity, and a welcome change to my adopted routine, but more than that, it’s been addressing some of my quieter, more spiritual longings.

Cool stuff today. Mary’s accepted a part-time job with a small company here in Ballard. “Dr. Dan’s Bio-diesel.” I don’t know that much about the actual job. I do know that she’s going to be keeping the books and handling some management issues. It sounds like they really need someone’s help, and I know they’re getting more than they would expect from Mary.
You know, over the last few years, Mary has mentioned how she’d like to be working in a less corporate environment. Having had enough of the moral conflicts she was experiencing back in her past (corporate) life, she’s often talked about how she like to work as a bookkeeper, or a manager of a small store. I’ve even listened to her treasured fantasy involving working in some kind of bookstore.
At this moment, Mary is working part-time at Epilogue Used & New Books, with the promise of a management position with the business grows to that point. While on her first day of work at Dr. Dan’s, she was introduced as the office manager. She’s now working two part-time jobs, both of which are walking distance from home.
It’s a bit funny how things work out, huh?
