I arrived at work at 9:00 a.m., and it was off to the races. I spent my first hour at H2L giving the designated freelance workstation a much-needed makeover. The terribly dusty cubicle that sits on the corner of Kitchen and Main looked like it had become a repository for misplaced items. I packed the miscellaneous pieces into the lid of a paper case and hosed the surfaces down with Lysol. When I’d finished stripping the cube down I took my framed photo of Willy out of my backpack and made him at home on the shelf above my 20″ monitor.
One of my new bosses, Jason, came over and helped me get introduced to my new computer. I took notes on the server and printer setups as quickly as I could as he hot-keyed his way through various panels. It was a bit confusing, but fairly straight forward in comparison to what I’ve seen.
Jason’s leaving for a meeting left me at the kind mercy of the pedestrian traffic. So far, I’ve had six people stop by, deliberately making an effort to welcome me as they introducing themselves. I hope they realize that they only have to remember one new name, while I am trying to remember all of theirs.
Waiting for Jason’s meeting to end gives me this opportunity to make this entry. I don’t know what they’ll have me working on. It’s 10:00 a.m., and the day is young.
p.s. Make that seven….
