I got an email this afternoon from Apple Computer announcing that today was the Grand opening for the new Apple Computer Store in the University Village, which is just east of the University of Washington. I told Mary the news and we quickly adjusted our plans to run down to the store to have a peek.
The store was set to open at 6:00pm, but there was already a line of several hundred by the time we arrived (5:00pm). The line looped and doubled around the immediate parking area when they finally did start letting people in. While there, I couldn’t help but engage in a few lively conversations about how glad I am the store is opening, considering the consistently poor experiences I’ve had with their only competitor, The Computer Store on 45th..
Even though a new store is really not a big deal, I still think it was pretty cool for your everyday retail outlet. I played around on a G5 for a while and took a few pictures before leaving. Mary and I each got free T-shirts and entered to win an iPod. The store will be giving away one iPod for every point the UW Huskies score in their game tomorrow. (Yes, I asked: If it’s a shut-out they’ll still give out three of the MP3 players.)
Umm… We made a point of leaving when the marching band started warming up.
