This Is Not A Fire Drill

I wasn’t able to workout today. A power outage hit half the gym just as I arrived. They originally thought it was a blown fuse, but they later had to evacuate due to a fire in a nearby sewer grating. I was already started when they made the announcement. Three fire trucks closed off the center of Ballard as smoke continued to escape from somewhere beneath the sidewalk. I don’t actually know anything more, except that I’d really wanted to work out.

Adobe, Thrifting & Uploading

I received an email this morning from the National Association of Photoshop Professionals telling me their plans to support for the new Photoshop CS. A little surprised by the news of a new release, I did some quick research on the Adobe site and learned that Adobe just announced this new version of Photoshop morning. The “CS” stands for “Creativity Suite,” and looks to be the replacement for the old “Studio” language for their products. Photoshop CS, InDesign CS, Illustrator CS and Version Cue CS are packaged together in the standard version, and GoLive and Acrobat join these in the Premium version.

Ending My Day At The Locks

Mary and I both hit the gym first this morning. I was feeling energized when I woke up, and hitting the gym so early was a great way to set the tone for the day. I even took some time for the sauna!

Just A Moment

Beyond a few minor errands and housekeeping matters, today has been extremely low-key. I’ve spent much of my day catching up on some much needed reading, researching some technologies I’m interested in. Geek that I am, what that really means is that I’ve spent most of my day sitting in front of my computer. Of course, I’ve also been hanging out with Mary and Willy, which is always fun.

And Another Glorious Morning

I woke up feeling a lot better than I did yesterday. Working out at Ballard Health has been sending my system into shock this week. After yesterday’s workout I was nearly blind with hunger. When I finally ate my big lunch I fell, hard, into a food coma. Waking today, I not only feel well rested, but my muscles are not nearly as stiff as they were.

University Village Apple

I got an email this afternoon from Apple Computer announcing that today was the Grand opening for the new Apple Computer Store in the University Village, which is just east of the University of Washington. I told Mary the news and we quickly adjusted our plans to run down to the store to have a peek.

About Those Photos,

Well, my expectations for the roll of film that I’ve been waiting for couldn’t have been more of a disappointment. I waited for a week and a half for the development and ten more minutes in line today, just to learn that something had gone wrong with the film! The roll was completely blank.

Ryan Casey’s Cameo

One of the first things I did this morning was to make a small, but much needed, adjustment to my homepage. The Amazon button I created for myself was always placing itself at the bottom of the page, and I wanted it to appear just under my Top Ten. It took a little while to see what was going on with the code, but I finally got it nailed down. It’s extremely satisfying to correct something like this when you’ve thinking about it and looking at it for months.

Losing Three Weeks

Well, I had another awkward encounter with one of my agencies again today. Yesterday, I’d left a voicemail for an agent as a follow-up to a job that I was supposed to be starting on Monday. I’d first been approached about this a few weeks ago, but I haven’t heard anything about the assignment since, which made it impossible to prepare. I called again today and got transferred to yet another agent, one whom I’d never spoken to before. Sounding like her report was old news, she plainly offered that the client company had already found a candidate to fill the position in question.

A Very Nice Wednesday

Today’s been great! Having finally resolved all of my site’s transition issues, I chose to address some of those administration issues I’ve been procrastinating on. I even took time to archive my site and the corresponding project folder, complete with exported entries. Long overdue, I’m happy to have this particular CD in my collection.
