It’s amazing what you can do with a little bit of money and a full tank of gas,.
By mid-morning, Mary, Willy and I hit the road, searching for a few prize pieces that have been coming to mind. With the recent push to all of the scheduling and prioritizing, I’ve needed to add a few simple office supplies to my growing arsenal to keep management easy. At the top of my nerdy little list is the prized 7-hole paper punch.
“A 7-hole paper punch?” you say? Well, you see, those Franklin binders I’ve been collecting require a special 7-hole punch for their pages, and not the standard 3-hole punch that would be cheaply and readily available from any office supply store. I made a number of inquiries as to the availability of just such a paper punch, only to learn that they are rather rare and expensive. I found one store that carried a 7-hole paper punch, and even drove all the way downtown just to get it, only to find that it would not adjust to the proprietary sizes of my Franklin planner. Yes, indeed, I require a very, very special 7-hole paper punch.
Today was a continuation of this peculiar search. We searched high and low; all around the Greater Seattle area, including Bellevue, Shoreline, and Kent. We started at about 9:00am, and finally got home at about 5:00pm, and I think we drove about forty miles while looking for the solution. Short of actually calling up the Franklin Covey store, we left no stone unturned in our search.
Wouldn’t you know it: Mary found precisely what I was looking for. Not only did we find a 7-hole punch, but we found a 7-hole punch made by the Franklin company for their specific, proprietary dayplanners. And it only cost $2.99!
Anyway, after a light dinner of salmon and rice, I’m back to my study. It’s been at me all day. Objects in view gain attention as passed landmarks shrink on the horizon. I’m reading, and listening, and there’s nothing as good.
As I’m finishing up I can hear Mary calling out answers to Jeopardy as she watches TV. “Dorothy! Dorothy Gale, of Kansas!” she exclaims. “I am sooo good.”
Yeah. It’s been a pretty cool day. A real gift, for those that look.
Well, Francis Ford Copula’s Apocalypse Now Redux is coming on now, and Mary’s waiting. Time to pop up some popcorn and watch four beautiful hours of ugliness.
