Wholly preoccupied, I’ve been distracted from my recent course of study. Yesterday turned into a serious field trip, as we visited the Ballard Library, the Ballard Chamber of Commerce, the Ballard Family Center and our local City of Seattle Neighborhood Center.
Today started somewhere around 60mph. (I think that’s about 21.5kph, for those of you that don’t know.) Although I’d already been awake, I didn’t remember that Mary and I needed to be at the Ballard Family Center at 7:00am if we were going to check out our local chapter of Toastmasters. With only 45 minutes, I’m not exactly sure how we managed to get there on time, but we did.
Going to Toastmasters falls in line with my ongoing effort to find new, constructive activities which relate to my personal pursuits. About 15 people attended this morning’s meeting, all of whom share a common interest in developing their public speaking and leadership skills. The meeting lasted for an hour and a half, and consisted of various speeches.
This was our first time visiting Toastmasters. I think it’s a valuable opportunity to learn, as well as an opportunity to contribute. The meetings are held weekly, and the membership dues are reasonable, so Mary and I are considering joining.
